I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible edition by Michael S Heiser Religion Spirituality eBooks

I read as much Heiser material as I can. An expert in Hebrew and other ancient languages ,his fictional novels are all based on real entities and are exciting reads. His blogs on "Logos" are informative. This work was actually a very pleasurable read. The "jist" is that all of the Bible is profitable to read and understand. It is all of God's word to us after all. Mike picks some obscure sections of scripture to expound on using his expertise and makes you want to not "skip over" seemingly un-meaningful passages or episodes. He re-iterates that if there is something that eludes you when you are trying to grasp God's intent in His Word...dig in and study it prayerfully and like treasure it will be discovered and be a blessing to you the reader.

Fascinating truths on different subjects. What I like about Michael is that he talks about a subject with such impact that you just know he's right! He uses scripture and information about history, etc. Can't put it down. One of the few I have on , but it's handy to schlepp around to MD's offices, etc. Lots of information we all need. And he won't bore you with the Bible.
I liked this book and may re-read it again soon, something I rarely do. It's short chapters are succinct and interesting. Many cover "new" interpretations of bible passages, based upon his ideas of the divine council and unseen realm. But that is not all that he covers. I found it fresh and enlightening. I'll really looking forward to his next books.
This is a great book to learn about some of the less "normal" parts of the Bible. Dr. Heiser really knows his subject and has tremendous insight into what the writers of the Bible were thinking and reading, especially in the Second Temple Period. If you really want to read something that will open your eyes, read Heiser's Unseen Realm book. Personally, I got that one as an audio book (I wish the other's were in that format) and I've listened to it 2-3 times working out. I know its odd workout media, but you start thinking about all the stuff he's covering and the time flies. Also, check out his podcast for even more thought provoking material.
Has some interesting thoughts I hadn't seen mentioned elsewhere. Great for a student of the Bible who has always wondered about some of those "weird" passages that seem so culture-specific or so supernatural they aren't easy to understand. Heisner is an expert on ancient cultures and religions and explains a lot of Old Testament strangeness- and some stuff from the NT, too. I deducted a star because some of these chapters just lay out a problem without offering a solution or explanation at all, which felt like a waste of time.
Heiser is a real scholar. When he publishes you can be certain that the History and Textual fidelity is solid. This book is an easy
read and interesting. I have followed Dr. Heiser's extensive writings for many years...his blog, and work concerning Ancient Literature distortions, not just Biblical, by certain present day self-styled 'scholars'...those who are generally nothing more than self-congratulatory 'fringe writers'. (and sadly are paraded as 'experts' by the so-called Discovery/History channels...)
His work includes rebutting distorters of Ancient Cuneiform Texts/History...a practise exhibited by Zecharia Sitchin, Von Daniken and other 'knuckleheads'. (an appropriate Ad Hominem considering that these 'pseudo-scholars' have been openly corrected concerning their distortions and yet they persisted with their willfully distorted and stupid behaviours...'cause, I guess, it sells books to ignorant people)
The reason I trust Heiser's work? His stated motivation and practise is..."Let the Text lead"...as opposed to 'bending' the Text(s) or 'imposing his 'personal beliefs' upon Textual material.
Heiser also helped with the online series at ancientaliensdebunked.com and it is a wealth of free and solid material.

This is a good book, in the tradition of the other excellent Michael Heiser books. Its short chapters make it an easy read, and for the most part open your eyes to a lot of what Scripture really means versus what many of us have been taught. No, it's not "out there", but consists of sound exegesis of selected Scriptural text. My only disappointment with the book is that not all chapters come to a conclusion about some difficult passages. So while reading the book I had to get used to not getting all the answers I was looking for. Still a worthwhile read, though.
This book should be read by everyone, as it opens up key contextual meanings that MOST people would otherwise never understand. Michael explains many of the 'mysteries' in scripture by carefully and clearly delving into the context, customs and culture of the text. Setting and culture is everything in scripture and most bible students are not familiar with them.

Whether you agree with his explanations or not, the fact remains; studies in context, culture, language, ancient mythology and several other important aspects are a must to understanding the scriptures. Sure, there are hundreds of (contextual) passages that are blatantly understandable, but Dr. Heiser has delved into the most difficult and often, most understood passages.

Thank you, Michael, for doing this time-consuming and difficult work into cultures, customs and languages. You have taken my bible study to a whole different level.
